Everyone optimizes for clicks. Here’s what happens when you optimize for customers.

Every ad platform is tuned for the cheapest form fill. Feed it what your sales team actually says about those leads and it starts buying something else.

0.6×the quality floor below which an ad set is paused

Meta is very good at what you ask it to do. Ask for leads and it finds the people most likely to fill in a form. It does not know, and cannot know, that the form was filled in by someone who will never pick up the phone, has no roof to put panels on, or typed a fake number to get the free guide. To the auction, a lead is a lead. To your sales team, most of them are a Tuesday afternoon wasted.

This is the quiet failure of almost every ad tool on the market. They optimize on the signal the platform gives them - cost per result - and the platform’s result is a submitted form. So the whole stack, from the creative generator to the automation rule that pauses an ad set, is aligned to the wrong number. Cheap leads win. Cheap leads are expensive.

What a cheap lead costs

We run lead generation for solar installers, mortgage brokers, law firms and insurance agents. In those businesses the cost of a lead is a small fraction of the cost of working it: a call, a callback, a quote, sometimes a site visit. An ad set that produces leads at half the price but a third of the qualification rate is not a bargain. It is a machine for burning the sales team’s time, and the ad dashboard will show it as a winner every single morning.

The only way out is a second signal: not “did someone submit”, but “did someone on your side say this was real”. Qualified. Booked. Won. That signal exists - it sits in your CRM, in the notes of whoever answered the phone - and the ad engine never sees it.

Closing the loop

Efekto closes it in two directions. Outbound, every qualification event goes back to Meta through the Conversions API as an offline conversion attached to the original lead, so the auction itself learns which people to look for. Inbound, the same event is attached to the creative and the angle that produced it, so the generator learns which messages bring customers rather than form fills.

That rule is the hinge. Once lead quality is a number the lifecycle can read, “cheap” stops being the winning argument. An ad set that produces leads at 30 zł (about $8) that nobody qualifies loses to one at 45 zł ($12.50) where two in three become conversations. The budget follows the second one. The generator writes more in its voice. The angle library records what the first one really cost.

What changes in the creative

The surprising part is how quickly the copy changes once quality is in the loop. Angles that promise something for nothing - a free calculator, a “see if you qualify” with no qualification - pull the cheapest leads and the worst ones. Angles that state the offer plainly, with a real number and a real condition, pull fewer forms and more customers. The engine does not need to be told this. It reads it from the feedback and stops writing the bait.

The same applies to the form itself. A lead form that asks one qualifying question and closes politely when the answer disqualifies costs nothing for the people you could not serve. It is the cheapest filter you own, and most tools never touch it because a submitted form is their only score.

A lead that never picks up the phone is not cheap. It only looks cheap in Ads Manager.

What you have to do

Less than you would think. Efekto connects to your ad account and your lead destination - a CRM, a sheet, a webhook. When someone on your team marks a lead qualified or won, the event goes out to Meta and back into the engine automatically. If nobody marks anything, the loop still runs on the platform signal, the way every other tool does. The moment someone does, the engine starts buying customers.

We built this because we were the sales team. Our own agency runs on the same engine, with our own money, and the leads land in our clients’ phones. Optimizing for clicks was never an option we could afford. It turns out nobody can.
